What does a fellow put in the first post in what he hopes will be the beginning of something great. Well I sure don't know the answer to that question so I guess I will have to wing it. I think maybe the best thing I can do is give you a breakdown of how the site is laid out so you can better navigate around it when you are looking for something. So to kick this off I will start with my Lifestyle section of the Green Living Library. Lifestyle The catch all section of the website you will find topics here ranging from four season bicycle riding to making your own all natural soaps and laundry detergent. Every site needs some sort of catch all place and the Lifestyle section will be that and more. Food The food section is my own personal baby of the Green Living Library. This particular section will have general topics like gardening to very specific ones like which soil amendments to add for what types of soil. It will also cover general information topics like how industrial agriculture leads to excessive soil loss and how organic food is more nutritious then industrially grown food. Home Building The portion of the Library will delve into one of the most important topics in building a sustainable life. Housing is a major user of energy, resources and space on this Earth and as such for a sustainable future to be built we will have to change both how homes are built and what they are built from. This section will be for those that want to learn more about alternative building systems like straw bales, adobe, cob, rammed earth, passive solar design and earth sheltering to name a few. Renewable Energy Finally we have the renewable energy section which will cover the broad and expanding field of renewable energy. Without a way to power our lives without polluting the atmosphere and destroying our water supplies we will eventually lose any hope of maintaining a sustainable life. From using solar panels and battery banks to harnessing the energy contained within the Earth we could have renewable energy now if the demand was there. This section will give practical advise to deciding which renewable energy is the the one for you and the ups and downs of that technology.
